Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta have seen some outstanding results in this year’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) with a number of schools making significant improvements in their overall results.

In all, 2,609 students from the Parramatta Diocese sat for the 2012 HSC from a record 73,375 students across NSW.

On Tuesday 18 December, the students who placed First in Course for their subjects were acknowledged by NSW Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli at a special ceremony held in Sydney. The Parramatta Diocese had five students who made this distinguished list: Andrew McClenahan, Erin Laska, Grace Elizabeth Facer, Kiera Warda and Elvis Dangol.

Executive Director of Schools in the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta, Greg Whitby, congratulated the students and their teachers on the impressive results.

"We are proud of the improvement that our schools are showing overall in the HSC," Greg said.

"The Parramatta Diocese is committed to driving improvement in learning and teaching and while the HSC is the culmination of 13 years of schooling, these results are a testament of the collective efforts of these students and their teachers from Kindergarten to Year 12."
