On 26th September 2015, Padre Pio parishioners including their families and friends attended the fundraising event at Siena Events in Wetherill Park. The event commemorates Padre Pio’s anniversary when he joined his Creator on 23rd September 1968. This also coincides with the 10 years anniversary when Parochial District of Glenmore Park was canonically approved to be a parish known as Padre Pio Parish in 2005.

The theme “A Night in Sicily” offered the experience of fine dining with wines and drinks complementing the authentic Italian dishes. The Italian banquet style started with a generous serving of antipasto followed by Arancini Individual which to some guests thought was already the main meal. The delectable Italian main dishes were then served followed by desserts. Wines and other drinks were openhandedly served during the night. There was also a long queue on Italian coffee like Machiato and latte which were served in style by Siena’s specialist barista.

The night was highlighted by Lazy Drive Band led by Glenn Green and DJ Warren Hayward. A 70s music medley was also rendered by lady soloist singer Zora. The electrifying music kept the dance floor jam-packed throughout the night. Obviously, the fired up emcee Matt Topp ensured hype was always upheld during the night.

Auction, raffles and games also kept the 236 guests entertained. Auctioneer Ray King achieved selling the holiday accommodation and Dawn Fraser frame above the reserve prices. The abundance of prizes given through raffles and door prizes brought more fun and excitement to all the guests. The only hitch was raffle tickets were sold out in a flash which deprived some guests chance to win prizes. Priscilla Clements enthusiastically got the guests on the floor to participate in the Hugging and Bring Me games.

The party will not be complete without acknowledgements. Fundraising Coordinator, Cristina Pitargue, called and thanked the members of the Fundraising Committee. The members who demonstrated their commitment and hard work throughout the planning and organisation are:  Fr Robert, Connie Hyland, Lorraine Vella,  Zon Lupisan, Toni Gulli, Tina Giordano, Edna Reyes, Nelda Higgins, Priscilla Clements, Ray King, Wendy Van Mullekom, Elvie Williams, Cecilia Rowe and Edgar Pitargue.  She also thanked the sponsors who contributed to the Souvenir Programme and Siena Event for providing an impressive venue and delightful food. Fr Christopher Antwi-Boasiako concluded the night’s formalities with his inspirational speech.

A Night is Sicily is something to remember and cherished as one of the enjoyable event at the Parish.
